Trying to instal Norton Security I encountered the message "ANOTHER PROGRAM IS BEING INSTALLED. PLEASE WAIT UNTIL THAT INSTALLATION IS COMPLETE AND THEN TRY INSTALLING THIS SOFTWARE AGAIN." This same message appears when attempting to Uninstal programs. The pc is a Dell Inspiron 1520 using Windows Vista Home Premium

I assume that you are not trying to install 2 programs at the same time. How long has this been happening?

If you are trying to install Norton does that mean that you are running without any AV program at all or is this a switch. If there is none for how long has it been that way?

Silly question but has to be asked to make sure, but is there, and have you tried rebooting to make sure, and have you checked in your task manager to see what's going on.

Failing that what AV are you using?

How long has this been happening for?

Hi
This problem came to light when the security ran out, and I had to Instal new. I find that the message appears whatever I try to instal or uninstall. I don't know how long the problem has existed, the laptop is not used very often, my desktop is my main pc. I have tried everything I can with my limited knowledge. Nothing else is running on the laptop as far as I can ascertain.

Right then I think this is the clue can you tell us what security you had and how you (tried to) uninstall it.

and could you tell us what version of Norton Security you are trying to install?

Have a look in Task Manager for anything .msi running - they tend to be installers.

If you find any, let us know what they are.

What was the old security suite - was it McAfee.

Also, I've had this problem before on Dell's, albeit on XP, from uninstalling other bundled software. From memory it was either Sonic DVD software or Paintshop software, I can't remember which.

Have you uninstalled any of the bundled packages?

Hi
I have checked task manager and nothing appears to be running. Mcafee security was installed, it was current but the expiry date was approaching. I managed to uninstall that, it was a different process.
I have Norton 360 installed on my desktop. It is licensed for 3 pc's so I tried to instal it on my laptop. I have tried to uninstall a Nokia bundle but I find I can't install or uninstall anything.
Many thanks for the replies
