I wouldnt do a backup this way I would recomend buying a copy of a disk imaging util like acronnis from

Acronis backup software and recovery services in UK. Complete hard disk drive copy, cloning and image backup software: computer files and disk copying

This is a better backup. First off if you hard drive dies you can restore all of windows in under 30 mins exactly as it was no reinstall.
You can set it to run every week
You can backup just some files like email etc

The real big one is the recovery it saves hours

You can download a trial to test it and its not dear to buy

Welcome to Future Systems Solutions that is the website for a programe called "Casper XP".
this little tool will take a complete clone of your hard drive.....
this means that if your original fails you can just boot from your external drive,,, or put the hard drive from the caddy intot he pc....you can then make another clone for your external...
hope that makes sense.
anyway the tool is great pretty fast...i cloned a jam packed 250gb in just short of 30 mins...
this is all done inside windows too....there is a command line version too.
hope that helps a little
regards
danzil

Hi,
I will also add that Acronis quite often release older versions of their software as available free, but usually as a deal with either computer magazines, or as in the latest, a deal with a drive manufacturer.

The latest deal is with Seagate, or Maxtor, the drive manufacturers, if you own one of their drives, either internal or external it will work for you. Have a look here-
DiscWizard | Seagate
