Default same update installs on shutdown

PC installs 4 updates every time I switch off. I got help recently for finding control panel from task manager and Goku gave me a disinfect routine which I followed but I'm still getting these 4 updates install each time I switch off. Any ideas?

Default Office updates

Prompted by your question Dirty Polo I looked in error log in Help & Support and the updates seem to be for MS Office Professional. I have Windows XP Home with Office 2003 installed, but I haven’t got Professional. I don't use Office very much but my son needs it for school. I’m sure it’s not Professional we’ve got so I just want to get rid of the update that won’t install anyway. What do you think?

Okay, well we can move on from this point.

the next step is for us to know exactly what these updates are.

Can you go back into the error log, and copy down the exact codes for these updates and the post them in your next reply please

Default error log report

My son has pointed out to me that our copy of Office is Professional! I had a job copying the results from error log. There are so many of them and as I don’t know which are relevant I wanted to copy the lot. I think a lot of them are repeated and they go right back to the beginning of November, so I’ve copied the ones I think relevant but if you need the lot I’ll have another go. The error log starts at 19 Dec with a pattern of a usb device failure and perhaps 2 update failures continuing through to Jan 11. Then it starts at November 4 with a new pattern with 2 Office Professional updates failing. On 10 Dec I get 4 updates failing. These continue through to 11 Jan.

Hello Fsyoza. It is time to re-register the DLL files connected with Windows Update.

Please download the attached archive and extract it. If you are unsure on how to open the archive, use the instructions from here and continue. After you have extracted the archive, you should obtain a file labeled Fix Windows Update.bat. Double-click on the file and a window will pop-up for a brief period of time and close automatically. Don't panic; this is normal. After the process is complete, please restart your computer and try to install the updates again.

Let us know how it goes though. Good Luck.

Thumbs up problem solved

Thanks Goku for the download. It seems to have solved the problem. I switched off and didn't get the multiple installation on shutdown. There's no entry in the error log for today, but I expected to see the PC say installing updates, as it shut down, because all the other attempts failed. I was glad to see and end to the multiple update installation, but I wnder if they are now installed. They must be automatic updates because I don't remember doing anything to get them. Thanks for your help!
