Operating System: Windows XP - Professional PC Experience: Some Experience | Hello, My sister gave me her old computer its a Dell and its running XP home. My question is it looks like it has 5 different log ins for 5 different users and ALOT of files music pictures etc as well as a number of programs that I do not want. What is the best way to clean up all of these files and remove them. I just want to get it back to where it was when it was new. There is no recovery disk and I do not have a copy of XP to install. Thanks (sorry for the noob question) Dean |

Operating System: OSX, XP, Ubuntu PC Experience: Pc Guru | Hi Dean, Considering you do not have an XP CD, the best option might to be manually clean up everything.. Remove all users accounts bar one, this in turn will delete all their documents, music, etc. Also, go through the Add and Remove programs and delete everything that is not needed. I'd guess you would be able to remove most programs that are installed apart from applications like Office, DVD Player Software, Windows Updates etc?? Once done run the items listed below to make sure there is no Malware on the system.
The reason to run multiple scanners is to ensure that no single scanner is missing something.

If required this is the download link for TrendMicro™ HijackThis™ Unless instructed to by the Technician helping you then do not download this tool. Once you and the Technician agree that your system appears to be clean then you should delete all your System Restore points and recreate a new one. Operating System: Windows Vista - Home Premium PC Experience: Too much! | Dell's normally have a hidden space on the main storage device (hard drive), that will return the software back to factory condition. If you wish to do such, please post back with the model number of the Dell. |
