Hi everyone, hope you can help me. I am trying to sort out my mother-in-laws computer for her. Every time the phone rings her computer restarts. It is a Tiny pc, it is internet connected via internal pc modem and dial up connection to main phone line. Why does it start automatically and can I stop it?

There are two areas of configuration that you need to check. You need to disable the "wake on ring" functionality of the modem. This can either be done in the BIOS (accessible as the computer begins to power up) or from within Windows, under the Device Manager.

You will need to find and disable any settings that sounds similar to "wake on ring"; this does exactly as it says.
