Hi I have just installed this onto my pc, it's connected properly, with the latest drivers. All wires are fully plugged in (both digital optical and standard line-in) sound is on full, yet for the life of my I don't understand why there is no sound being produced on either types

You need to go into the sound options and configure the sound - did the same on mine and they have seperate volumes for each device and they are normally muted - DO NOT get this confused with the windows audio.
right click on the speaker in the bottom right and there are options on there for the optical and analogue -
It is also advisable to only have one of these connected not both unless you switch between the 2 as I do for some programs.

Still no luck I'm afraid. The level is set to 100 and windows volume is full as well. I unplugged the analogue input that didn't help. It's strange because when sound is being played the speaker at the bottom right tells me if output is working which it is

ok there is a place within the audio options that says audio HDMI etc - if you play something there is a little sound bar to the right of it that should show activity

Right - according to that image the bottom 'speakers' are not plugged in - I can only say from mine - but my ones where yours are not connected are connected.
hope this makes sense.
so your cables should be:-
blue - rear speakers
green - front speakers
red - bass

on some cards the black one is rear and orange is bass.
It says not connected - when it says connected all 'should' be sorted

Sorry I should be a bit more specific about my setup. I plan to use digital optical to my wireless sony headphones and also just the simple 3.5mm green coloured cable to the pc input on my television that I use as the monitor

Right and neither the headphones or Green input are working?
Have you set the headphones up in the sound control panel - as in put them on and clicked the test button

If it still doesnt work - just try using the onboard and see if thats ok - or was that what you were using originally?

I can use the onboard sound that works fine. Looks like I will have to live with it or find a new sound card. The reason I got it was for the digital optical which could plug straight into my headphone receiver oh well. Thanks for your help by the way

No problem - can you tell me the colours of the sockets on the back of the card you were trying to get to work, or post a pic

Ok the 2 round coloured ports just look like from what I can see Mic ones.
The other port that you have the big black wire coming from it looks like an S-VIDEO cable.
The ONLY digital outputs that I have ever seen are the SPDIF ones and they look nothing like what you have

Is that an AMD or Nvidia video card? I know that the ATI has had conflicts with some sound cards.

Might want to check the sound card and video card Website for any articles or software updates that might deal with your issue.

It's definitely a TOSLINK/SPDIF connection. I will check the websites see if anything on there can enlighten the situation
