My processor is on borrowed time(3 years old),and will be upgradingin the next 2 weeks,but need help choosing which one.

Current specs
Pentium 4 519 3.06 ghz
2 GB DDR2 533 mhz
intel D945GCPE w/1066/800/533 fsb
Win Xp Home

I don't need it to be mega fast,but I'd like to know how these 3 CPU's match up to my old cpu(I'm on a budget,so these ae best I can do)

1.)Intel Pentium Dual Core E2200 2.2 ghz 1 mb cache 800 mhz fsb

2.)Intel Celeron Dual Core 1.6 ghz E1200 800 mhz 512k cache

3.)Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 2.2 ghz 2 mb cache 800 mhz fsb

How do these compare to my current CPU performance wise,as none of them matches the 3 ghz clock speed,but I'm certain they must have something(besides 2 cores) that would make them better,faster

Hi,
Alot of programs today are multithreaded meaning 2 or more cores can work for it. Also because of the different die process from your Pentium 4 it will make the cpu get more clock cycles. You should look at these charts. CPU Charts 2007 - Tom's Hardware

In the choice of the three processors in option, I think your best choice would be the third one because:

1. It has the higher clock speed.
2. It has the highest capability.
3. It has the same processor as the speed.

Given your choices, the third one would definitely be a preference over the other two and you should experience a significant boost in your performance too. I would opt for the third chip that you have mentioned as Goku says its the fastest of the three and they are exceptionally cheap now, make sure that the FSB is supported by the MOBO without a BIOS update (you will find this difficult without a chip in it, to get on the net
If you are not overclocking then get the cheapest BRANDED RAM that you can, think that PATRIOT do a 2GB PC6400 for £25

And don't get a really cheap MOBO - they are cheap because the Capacitors are rubbish and will not last 2 minutes.
Try and get a named brand if you can - ASUS is my personal option, but some of the GIGABYTE ones are cheap but at the same time not nasty
