Cant ping websites but can view them

Default Cant ping websites but can view them

Im unable to ping websites like google etc but when i open ie8 i can view them fine.

Certain websites wont load either (only parts of them) for example i cant load ebays sign/register in page or face books sign in page. I cant download any updates (windows,spybots search and destroy,java, cant even download firefox but can view its pages)

The computer has just been restored to its origoanl state using acers recovery partition.

Running windows xp

This only happens when it is using the wireless connection, but when it is pluged in via the ethernet it works fine....

I tryed uninstalling the wireless driver and reinstalled it

You tried scanning the computer for malware?...It sounds very suspicious....

I scanned it and everything.

I took the laptop back to my house and the internet works fine here, but at my grans it dosent load those websites etc when using wireless, but my laptop works fine on both networks o.O Is it possible that the router isn't compatible or the mtu size?

I wondered about MTU - what ISP's do the two houses use? Also, what router does your grans house run

We use wightcable and she has virgin media, they use a netgear router (not sure of the model)
