Question iTunes server on DLink DNS 313 not working properly

Hi everyone,

I've got this problem with my new NAS drive. When I open iTunes the shared music appears in on the left hand side but when I click the folder to show my music only a handful of the songs appear. I have the same music on my laptop and they work fine through iTunes. If I disable and then re-enable the iTunes server on my NAS drive then a different group of songs appear and a different amount too.

Has anyone got any ideas as im stumped!

Many thanks

Paul

Hi paul,

so your music files are stored on the NAS drive itself and you've setup iTunes to look at this when playing music in the library?

I'm not familiar with iTunes Servers, but maybe you could try creating a new playlist and linking the music again?

Also, how is the NAS drive managed? Do you use an internet interface? If so under the "Advanced" tab click "open audio stream" and paste the url address of the NAS drive, maybe this will stream all the music. Although I haven't tested this so don't worry if that doesn't work.

Finally it may be an idea to check the sharing permissions are setup correctly.

I use iTunes for general use but not for network sharing I'm afraid.

My NAS drive runs on Linux and has a built in iTunes server, so on iTunes I just tick the box to search for shared libraries and away you go, in theory!

The NAS drive is managed through the internet by typing the ip address in my browser.

It used to work then I formatted my laptop and from then its not been working properly so its probably something simple but like yourself I dont normally use iTunes for network sharing so its beyond me really.

Again like the both off you i just play music with itunes =/ but i had a look on apples help forums and both off these came up with other people have similar problems

Open itunes and under the sub heading 'store' click authorize computer.
second where you tick the box saying look for shared library make sure you haven't put a password in there.

Thanks for looking dan, nice to see local people helping me out.

Ive tried authorizing my laptop and it says its already done and there is no password for the shared library. I'll have a look on the apple forums myself to see what i can find.

I use a NAS box to store music and iTunes can see it, but only when I enabled guest permissions on the NAS.

Can you see and access your NAS shared library through Windows Explorer or Network Places?

What version of Windows do your laptop and PC run?
