Operating System: Windows XP - Home Edition PC Experience: Some Experience | Router works, internet does not on one computer. Today on our main computer the internet refused to work. I was even unable to connect to 192.168.1.1 (Router IP) to find the problem.
I also tried our old modem, which did not work. All network connections seem to have a problem.
However on this laptop, everything works as normal, connecting wirelessly and internet still works.
I've reinstalled Intel VE\100 drivers and still nothing works.
I think this is a operating system problem (Windows XP)...
Any help? |

Operating System: Windows XP - Home Edition PC Experience: Always learning | Hi Undeaded
Welcome to Free PC Help.
How are you connecting to the router? (Wireless or ethernet cable) - Go to Start then Run and type cmd and press enter
- A DOS-like window will open
- Now type ping 192.168.1.1 and enter
- What does it say?

The ping 192.168.1.1 returns:

Operating System: Other - Mac Based PC Experience: Some Experience | Great - that says you can connect to the router. That proves the computer network connection is working so the problem is elsewhere.
Please start in Safe Mode with Networking and let us know if you can access the Internet with Internet Explorer or Firefox or whatever browser you use.
Here are instructions to boot to Safe Mode with Networking.....
* If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
* Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
* Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again. If F8 doesn't work try F5.
* Ensure that the Safe Mode with Networking option is selected.
* Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode with Networking.
* Log on with an account that has administrator priviledges, usually your own account (NOT the account named Administrator).

Operating System: Server 2003 Enterprise PC Experience: Systems Engineer | Well but you're listing more than 1 computer.
Please label the computers we're talking about when referenced to some task.
So can the MAIN computer that you said was broken now ping 192.168.1.1?
Can it ping google.com or yahoo.com?
Does the LAPTOP or other computer access the Internet okay? Can you access all Web sites?

Operating System: Windows XP - Home Edition PC Experience: Some Experience | Ok. The main computer was the result for the ping shown above. It does not however ping Google.
The laptop connects to the wireless fine and works fine.
Is this a problem with windows? |

Operating System: Other - Mac Based PC Experience: Some Experience | If you're running the Zone Alarm firewall, there is an update to fix the prolem.

Operating System: Windows Vista - Ultimate PC Experience: Very Experienced | Hi;
I think Kelly has it right. There was an issue with Zone Alarm and a Microsoft update. Check out the Zone Alarm page on this. Downloading the newest version appears to be the best option.
