Hi.

I have two XP PCs on a wireless network. One (XP Pro) is used as a music/file server and the other is my XP Home laptop. The server has a large external usb drive. When I try and copy files from the laptop to this external drive on the server I get the error

"The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."

Interestingly if I move the files first to the local drive on the server and then use Remote Desktop to move the files across to the usb drive it works.

Any suggestions?

Just curious - what happens if you try copy files from the ext USB drive to the laptop.

I'm also curious if you get the same error if you try to copy files from the laptop to the server with the laptop connected to the network with an Ethernet cable instead of doing it wirelessly.

Ethernet seems to make no difference. Copying is ok the other way initiated from the laptop and from the server.
