| Hi there. I have a 2nd hard drive in my PC that has become corrupt. It is not a system drive and is only used as a back up for my photos. I have tried running CHKDSK in the tools option and also through recovery console but each time i get a message saying 'unable to determin volume type chkdsk aborted' Can anyone offer any help or advise, i have some photos on there that I really do not want to lose and am at my wits end. ![]() |

| Hello Colonel Welcome to Free PC Help As a long shot for the moment type chkdsk *: /v The asterisk would denote the given drive letter, example E Therefore chkdsk E: /v Make note of the space after the colon and the forward slash. Get back to us if this can discover the version.

| What is the file system as shown in Disk Management Colonel, if seen at all. If not, can the drive be seen in the bios?
