old games slow on laptop - Computer Support & PC Help Forums

Hi all

Some older games are slow on my laptop. (counterstrike 1.6 and warcraft 3). They will run very smooth with no problems for a while and the suddenly they very slow for a short time and then fine again and then slow again after short time again, and it goes on like this the whole time. My laptop specs are way above minimum spec for both these games. I just dont know what is causing this. I dont know if it may get hot or something.
Any ideas would be apreciated.

when the laptop slows do you here extra fan noise....is the laptop hot at the time....
what is the system cpu doing in task manager at the time.....and processes.
the places to check for heat is around the cpu fan (will be hot but not enough to scold you) and around the hard drive (should not be excessivly hot).

it is an acer, it gets very hot sometimes when on for a couple of hours, was thinking on getting an heatpad or something like that thanks for the the response. havent check processes yet or task manager but when i do i post back

Cpu useage is almost al the time at 100% while in the game. I dont see any process using too much memory, the one using the most mem is one of the svchost programs.

mmmmm.what is the spec of the laptop.........try rest the laptop on a couple of tins of beans or something sinilar to allow air circulation underneath..see if that improves it in anyway....is the cpu fan nice and clean no dust etc,,,and is the thermal paste ok not dried up etc.

Thanks. I ve tried putting two dvd covers at the back of the laptop to lift it. And it seems to be running cooler like that. And the game doesnt go slow so often now, so it was a heat problem. Do you know about those pads you can put under the laptop to keep it cool or is it a waste of money? Thanks again.

the add on pad (like a docking bay) are pretty good....the cheaper ones use loud fans though and can be a little annoying...
but yes they do work i have tested them myself...
