Default windows xp home edition keeps logging out automatically?

I have a dell Dimension 3100cc desktop pc. When I purchased it I had windows XP service pack 2 on it, but now it says service pack 3 dint know how?
When I click on my name to log into windows my desktop appears for about 1 or 2 seconds then logs off on its own.
I have tried logging on in safe mode but this wont let me neither. I have a disk that I got when I purchased the computer I have put that in to try and recover the computer but cannot get it to start, can someone please help me with this?
I have also tried to restart from last known configuration what worked still no joy.
I have malwarebytes programme on my pc, I performed a scan and it found some trojans on pc to quarintine them it said I need to restart my computer which I done, but when I tried to log back on this is where the problem began, and it started logging me off automatically.
Please can anyone help me get past this problem? Ihave windows xp home edition and bought the pc 2 years ago.
Any help will be much appreciated.

What exactly does it say on the disk you have Milly?

It sounds like an OEM disk to me.

Hello Milly. It seems that Malwarebytes' removed the winlogon.exe that has resulted in the problem. The only way out of this problem is to perform a repair installation of XP. Please refer to the below article for instructions.

How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install

Hope that helps.

It says on th cd disc cover:
The enclosed CD contains a complete versionof your operating systems software.
This software has been pre-installed on your system.
Please store safely for future recovery of your software if needed.

Ok keep those two disks VERY safe but in the meantime follow the instructions given in the link by Goku.

If you have any difficulty with those then get back to us immediately.

Not if it is an authentic copy, yes you may have to spend a couple of days updating after a install, but thats life with Microsoft, I use vista and had to install 100+ updates

I suggest you try using THIS method and let us know how you get on

Wolfeymole I have inserted Cd bypassed hard drive went to boot from my installation Cd to recovery mode, it gives me 2 options
1:C:/WINDOWS
2:J:/minit

Then I press number 1 for C:/WINDOWS and enter it asks for the Admin password which I know as I have been into SYSTEM SET UP and it lets me unlock things to make changes.
But when I put password in to run the C:/WINDOWS it says password is invalid.
What could this be?
Could it be because that the warranty is passed its year and Cd is out of date?
I think I might of borrowed this to a friend a while ago could it be for this reason?

Also if I press 2 and enter for it to run J:/minit nothing at all happens it dont even ask for a password.

Please help

NO!!! If you have an authentic XP disk then that copy of XP will be registered to your machine and your machine only,

For the reason above this would not have worked on your friends PC other than to do what your trying to do.

Talking of which are you following the steps listed under 'Skip to Repair Install'

I dont think I know what this means sorry 'Skip to Repair Install'

I purchased the CD with the PC from Dell so yes its authentic.

I dont know why it's not recognising the Admin password as I can change the way system set up in 'system when set up' when I press F12.

Default Image burning

I have been asked to copy a CD using a image burning file to recover my computer. I have taken home work laptop as my home pc keeps logging off automatically (looping) and I have no admin rights to download a programme that I can perform the image burn on.
But I have NTI CD/MOVIE MAKER INSTALLED.............can this programme perform the above task?

If you follow this link you might get more of a idea Fix Windows XP Log On/Log Off Loop at Thinking in Pixels

If you look at 3rd paragraph you may get an idea what I mean.
Help will be much appreciated.

Hi

Why not just use one of the programs mentioned there. They will all do the job.

Free ISO Burner

NTI should work if you have the option to burn an image
