Default HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA will not work...Please Help!!

I have an Acer 4620z and my HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA, just stopped working, I have checked the device manager and there is an exclamation point over the disc drive. I have tried to uninstall the driver and reboot, that did not work, I tried to update driver software and that didnt work either. It was working fine and just quit...Any suggestions? I am running Vista Home premium if that helps....Thanks

Hello and Welcome to Free PC Help Jesus.

Please don't start multiple threads as it becomes more difficult to keep track of them. I have merged them for you so please continue in this thread as it will be easier for both of us.

I gather that you have already downloaded the registry fix but I recommend you to try and apply it again.

Please download the attached archive and extract it. If you are unsure on how to open the archive, use the instructions from here and continue. After you have extracted the archive, you should obtain a file labeled Fix CD Drive.reg. Double-click on the file and you will be asked whether you want to import the information into the registry or not. Answer Yes to the prompt and sometime later another dialog box will pop up informing you that the operation was successful. After you have done the above, reboot your computer. You should now be able to access and use your CD drive.

Fix CD Drive.zip

Note: Using the above registry fix might cause some programs to dysfunction or work incorrectly. In that case, please reinstall the affected programs to resolve their respective errors.

Hope that helps.

OK, do the following.
  • Go to Device Manager and expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers category.

  • Right-click on each of the listed devices and select the Properties option.

  • Switch to the Advanced Settings tab (if present) and see which one says ATAPI CD-ROM or something similar.

  • Do this for all other present IDE controllers and uninstall the ones which are related to your CD / DVD drive.

  • Reboot the computer.

Does your CD / DVD drive work now?

Hi Goku,
Like the above postings i too am having trouble with the CD-Rom not working? I have tried what you suggested above & still it will not work? I am operating Windows 7. When you say delete all other ide controllers, well i tried deleting ATA 1channel which reads 0 atapicdrom Ultra dme mode 2 + 0 ATA Disk Ultra DMA Mode 5. I deleted both these, rebooted yet still they reinstall themselves?
There is another IDE/ATAPI controllers called intel(R) 82801GBM/GHM (1ch7-M Family) Serial ATA Storage Controller-27C4. Should i unistall this at the same time?? Thanks Stesal

Stesal could you please start a new thread? It's common for two similar sounding issues to be completely different. Besides it will give your problem a better chance of being noticed.

Thanks.

Default Cd-Rom Not Recognised?

Hi,
since my automatic updates downloaded a new driver for the CD-Rom it will not work, nor be recognised on my notebook. I am using windows 7. I have tried deleting the driver, also, deleting ATA devices in Device manager----without success? When my notebook restarts it just loads the same driver that i deleted? I followed goku's advice on another thread (ie uninstall all ides) but there is also a file called
Intel(R) 82801GBM/GHM (ICH7-M Family) Serial ATA Storage Controller-27C4.
Do i uninstall this as well as the other IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers?
Any assistance will be gladly received.

Hi there,
For those who still have problems with a dead HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA.

I tried all the good advices, but nothing, really nothing helped for a code 039 on my Vista Home Premium running laptop with a suddenly silenced DVD-drive.

The problem occured after installing Vista Servicepack 1.

Finally I've found a fix package on Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs (excuse me for directing you to a Dutch site of Microsoft Support) which revived my dvd-drive.

Good luck,
Pieter
