Unhappy CD/DVDR Drive not wroking

Hi

The Cd Drive on my pc has stop working recently for no reason i can find, it reads CDs in boot but not in windows. When i go to Device manager i can see the drive is there but it has ''!'' next to it, when i go to update it fails, saying it cant find the firmware. I recently downloaded the latest firmware updater from the philips website, but that says it cant find the drive even though im looking at it in device manger

The CD drive is Philips CD/DVD solidburn DVDR1660P1

It just wont install the CD drive, even when i uninstall it and install back through hardware wizard, it just says it cant find the firmware

Hi Phil,

Try uninstalling it from Device Manager and then restarting your PC.

Windows will find it as new hardware.

Hello Phil

Welcome to Free PC Help

Did you install the driver for this drive also?

If not have a look here.

Download Philips DVDR1660P1 P1.4 Driver for Windows 9X/ME/NT/2K/XP/2003/Vista/XP X64/2008 - Softpedia

Hi
Yea iv done all that you 2 said and still nothing it finds hardware when i reboot but it just goes back normal with the ''!'' next to it, i also tried to use the updater toll but it doesn't find the cd drive as the firmware isn't installed on the drive itself, i think what i need it the firmware on the computer so it can find when i reinstall the driver, well i dont really know it could be a range of things. Will i need to buy a new CD drive ? hope not

Well to be honest Phil I wouldn't buy anything from a company that also sells Steam Irons and Washing Machines.

You can get a new DVDRW for next to nothing these days.

Try this:

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).

2. Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

3. On the Edit menu, click Delete , and then click OK .
4. Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

5. On the Edit menu, click Delete , and then click OK .

6. Quit Registry Editor. NOTE : After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance.

7. : After you remove the Restart your computer.
