For those who still have problems with a dead HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA.
I tried all the good advices, but nothing, really nothing helped for a code 039 on my Vista Home Premium running laptop with a suddenly silenced DVD-drive.
The problem occured after installing Vista Servicepack 1.
Finally I've found a fix package on
Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs (excuse me for directing you to a Dutch site of Microsoft Support) which revived my dvd-drive.
