Operating System: Win 7, Snow Leopard, Ubuntu PC Experience: Tinker, tinker, learn....... | Speedstep is a way of slowing down your processor when it doesn't need to run flat out.
So, when you are browsing the Internet you don't need the brute power of a quad core CPU. The CPU has the ability to slow down, that means it consumes less power and gives out less heat. When you need the power of your CPU it will jump back up to speed again.
The spread spectrum bit is to do with electrical noise generated by your mainboard. Enabling Spread Spectrum reduces the noise characteristics to within certain standards.
Disabling it is considered a way of acheiving a better overclocking performance, as spread spectrum can mess with the system clock speed slightly.
You have a quad core CPU - minmum spec of 3GHz relates to a single core - no worries there!
