Office 2007 converter

I received a docx file and of course my Word 2003 couldn't open it.

I downloaded the file converter from MS and it wasn't working. What I found is that after downloading and running the FileConverter.exe, you have to restart your computer. Once I did that, I was able to double click the docx file and Word 2003 started and read the file properly.

Was there no prompt to restart?

What I would also like to know is the motivation behind the change.

Not really sure why but Microsoft actually has a few utilities that do not even have a finish prompt. Just one of those things.

That's why I always suggest a restart when any changes are made.

No prompt to restart. nothing, nada.
I don't think there was a Finish prompt either, but I really don't remember.

What prompted the change? I needed to read a docx file and I don't have Office 2007. I have the 2003 version.
