Ram memory upgrade

Hi guys,

Just used the crucial.com system scanner to tell me which model of RAM memory is correct for this machine. It said my memory is 200-pin SODIMM DDR2 PC2-5300. When I physically took the memory out, the stick read PC2-4200. What is the difference and would the PC2-5300 crucial recommend actually work in my laptop?

Hi and welcome to FpcH

The 4200 / 5300 refers to the data transfer rate - so the 5300 would be a little faster - assuming that the motherboard is compatible.
The PC2 5300 is backwards compatible with pc 4200 - in other words it will work - but will run slower if the motherboard can only cope with 4200.

If Crucial is suggesting that it is 5300 and the RAM is actually 4200 I am surprised - but it does happen.

If you can let us know which motherboard you have we can tell you exactly what the compatible RAM is.
